Built in 1890 by Henry Morrison Flagler, the visionary co-founder of Standard Oil, business partner of John D. Rockefeller, and the man credited with shaping modern Florida, the church stands as a lasting tribute to personal loss and visionary achievement.
Flagler, known as the father of modern Florida, envisioned more than industry—he envisioned a future. He brought that future to life through the development of Florida’s east coast and the creation of the Overseas Railroad to Key West, a marvel of engineering and ambition. But his most personal project was the church he built in memory of his beloved daughter, Jennie Louise Benedict, who died shortly after childbirth.
Crafted in the Venetian Renaissance style—with a copper dome forged in Italy and Italian marble throughout—the church exudes a timeless beauty.
